Buttocks Augmentation Frequently Asked Questions
I was told that Fat Injection did not work because the fat quickly absorbed – making it a non-permanent solution? Dr. Roberts uses a completely different technique called Micro Fat Grafting, which from past patients has proven to be permanent. Dr. Roberts uses 1 or 2 tiny (1/8 inch) incisions, but carefully puts only tiny droplets of fat in hundreds of different levels throughout the desired area of the buttocks. This gives a very natural shape and feel to the buttocks. By putting only tiny amounts in each tunnel, this ensures that every particle of fat cells has healthy tissue around it to give it a good blood supply. (In the past, other doctors often injected a teaspoon or even a tablespoon – sized glob of liquid fat in one place. Only the outer rim of this glob could get a blood supply, so of course almost all of it was absorbed and disappeared.
What is different about Dr. Roberts' technique that makes the results last so long? First he collects the fat by delicate liposuction with a special cannula (tiny collecting tube) that takes just the ideal sized tiny fat particles, which have the greatest chance of living. Second, he collects these tiny fat particles using a very low vacuum, which is a slow meticulous procedure - but this protects the fat cells to make sure that they survive. (In the past, doctors tried using regular liposuction machines to collect fat, but the vacuum on these machines is so high it literally explodes and boils the fat cells - no wonder they did not survive!)Third, Dr. Roberts uses one or two tiny (1/8") incisions, then carefully puts only minute droplets of fat in hundreds of different levels throughout the desired area of the buttocks. This gives a very natural shape and feel to the buttocks, but more importantly by putting only tiny amounts in each tunnel, this ensures that every particle of fat cells has healthy tissue around it to give it a good blood supply. This is why it is so important that you select only a doctor that uses this new micro fat grafting technique
What are the risks of Buttocks Augmentation by Micro Fat Grafting?
The risks are small and infrequent – Less than 4% of our series of 566 patients had problems, and these were all minor and either cleared up on their own or with simple treatment – occasional slight-superficial infection or a small fluid pocket. No patients had lumpiness, bleeding problems, or any muscle or nerve damage or numbness. A small amount of the fat may be absorbed, but the fat that remains at one year should remain permanently
How do the buttocks feel to touch? As soon as the swelling is down, they feel totally natural – which is what you would expect, since they are made of your own living tissue!
Can you tell by touching, which area had Micro Fat Grafting, and which area is natural? No - the grafted areas look and feel natural - like the natural buttocks. It is impossible to tell the difference, because there is no difference - all of it is your own living tissue
Will there be any numbness in my buttocks? No – once the swelling is down, you’ll have normal sensation
I do aerobics and several sports – will I have to be careful of my buttocks from now on? No- Go for it! After two weeks you can do anything you want and you won't hurt your new fullness
I really want as much fullness as I can possibly get in my upper buttocks. What is the best surgical technique for me? If you have a lot of extra body fat we can borrow from the tummy, flanks, hips, low back, and inner and outer thighs, we may be able to give you a very full buttocks just using your own body fat. However, if you are in reasonably good shape, you may find that there is really not enough fat to do this with fat alone. In this case, we would need to take a look at you. We may recommend that you have buttocks implants, and then use any additional fat that is available to add additional fullness to any part of the buttocks. Since the buttocks implants add fullness primarily to the upper portion of the buttocks, you may choose to use the extra fat that is available in the midportion or to give more roundness to the buttocks. The choice is totally up to you!
